...FLOODING POSSIBLE FROM HEAVY RAIN AND SNOW MELT ACROSS WESTERN
NORTH CAROLINA ALONG AND EAST OF THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS THROUGH
SATURDAY...
.A deep low pressure system moving from the lower Mississippi
River Valley to the central Appalachians will spread rain across
the southeast tonight into Saturday. Moist southerly flow ahead
of this system will produce periods of moderate to heavy rainfall
through tonight, with rainfall rates tapering off from the
southwest through Saturday. This rainfall will combine with
continued snow melt to raise the threat of flooding across western
North Carolina, mainly along and east of the Blue Ridge
mountains.
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...
The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of piedmont North Carolina and western North
Carolina, including the following areas, in piedmont North
Carolina, Alexander, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Davie,
Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union. In
western North Carolina, Avery, Buncombe, Burke Mountains,
Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Greater
Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, Henderson,
McDowell Mountains, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains,
Southern Jackson, and Transylvania.
* through Saturday afternoon
* Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall will combine with
continued snow melt to greatly increase water runoff into
streams and main stem rivers. Additional rainfall amounts of
one-half to one inch, with locally higher amounts, are possible
tonight through Saturday across much of western North Carolina.
* Minor flooding of streams and main stem rivers is possible.
Minor roadway flooding is also possible, especially across areas
with an extensive snow pack where storm drains may be blocked.

...PATCHY DENSE FOG TO AFFECT WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA ALONG AND
NORTH OF INTERSTATE 40 THIS EVENING...
Abundant moisture and widespread light rain and drizzle late today
are contributing to the formation of dense fog along and near the
Interstate 40 corridor in western North Carolina. The fog and
drizzle may reduce visibility to less than one-quarter of a mile
in some locations, with many locations see the visibility fall to
between one-half and one mile through the evening hours.
Use caution if driving this evening. Allow extra travel time and
stopping distance since the visibility may change rapidly over
short distances. Use low beam headlights and fog lamps to improve
your visibility of the road.
