HIDEOver one million Americans suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, commonly referred to as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). IBD are painful, medically incurable chronic illnesses that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack any part of the digestive system (from mouth to anus), whereas ulcerative colitis iritates the lining of the colon (large intestines). Patients may experience any, or all, of the following sympoms - abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever and weight loss. In many cases, the patient is hospitalized and undergoes surgical procedures to alleviate these symptoms. Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America continues to seek help in finding improved treatments and a cure for these debilitating conditions.
