Dan's Starry Skies
by Dn Caton

Latest Update: November 29, 2008

Venus, Jupiter and the Moon about 5:30 on the first of December.
Ray is calling for a snowy Monday but if there are breaks in the clouds just after sunset you can take in a nice pairing of planets. Venus and Jupiter get together in the southwest sky and are joined by the thin crescent moon. The two planets will be only a couple of degrees apart. No danger of a collision, of course--the two are visually aligned but Jupiter is far out in the solar system. The view is shown for just after sunset and the red grid lines are spaced 10 degrees apart to indicate that the whole dance of planets is close to the horizon. You will need a clear horizon down to about a fist-width and a half at arm's length.
